Punat is a small town situated on the east coast of Puntar Bay, on the south coast of the Island of Krk, about 8 km from the Town of Krk.
Signs of inhabitation have been observed since the prehistoric times, including Illyric, Greek and Roman eras.
Punat, a popular tourist destination, has one of the largest and best-equipped tourist marinas on the eastern coast of the Adriatic.
In the middle of Punat bay is the islet of Košljun - home of Franciscan Monastery. The history of Košljun dates back to the pre-Christian times.
The monastery has a rich library with around 30,000 titles and a large seashell collection and unique animal specimens.
Rich vegetation, sports and recreational activities, homemade food offered in numerous taverns and restaurants, and interesting culture makes Punat an attractive tourist destination.
